Building a successful company means creating success for thousands of people,” says Ron Boire ’03 (EMBA), who was named president of Toys “R” Us, North America, in September. “My job is to help our more than 50,000 employees pursue productive careers that help them support their families. The way we do that is by building a better experience for our customers.”
After 17 years at Sony serving in several senior marketing and management positions, Boire was the very first student to enroll in the School’s EMBA-Global Program, the pioneering dual–MBA degree program with London Business School. “Meeting students and professors from around the world was an incredible opportunity,” says Boire, who has worked with — and hired — many former classmates.
Going from working in the stockroom to managing the store to running the company is not unheard of in retail. “There’s a tremendous opportunity in this industry to help others build personal success stories,” Boire says. His job has also presented special opportunities for his five children. Last fall, Boire gave his then eight-year-old daughter a tour of one of the company’s toy labs. “Seeing all the toys before they were in the stores for Christmas,” he says, “was a big hit."
