Dr. Franz B. Humer
Franz Humer is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding Ltd and Non-Executive Chairman of Diageo pic. He joined Hoffmann-La Roche in 1995 as Head of the Pharmaceutical Division and Member of the Board. In 1996 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer, in 1998 Chief Executive Officer and in April 2001 Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He joined Diageo as Non-Executive Director in 2005 and was appointed Non-Executive Chairman in July 2008.
In 1973 Franz Humer joined Schering Plough Inc where he held several positions including General Manager for various Latin American and European countries.
In 1981 he joined Glaxo Holdings and was appointed Managing Director of Glaxo Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd in 1987. In 1989 he was elected to the Board of Glaxo Holdings pic and in 1992 became Chief Operating Director for Glaxo's worldwide operations (excluding USA).
He is also currently Chairman of INSEAD, member of the International Advisory Board of Allianz, member of the European Round Table of Industrialists, and member of the JP Morgan International Council. Franz Humer graduated from the University of Innsbruck with a PHD in Law and in 1971 obtained an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He has an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel and an honorary doctorate of science from the London School of Pharmacy, University of London.
