Usameh Jamali wishes all survivors of the class of 1960 continued good health and would love to hear from them. After Columbia, he went to Libya from 1960 to1964, and then to Boston's Fletcher School from 1964 to1974. Now retired, he has been in Kuwait since 1974. Darwinism seems to have been alive in my career: I evolved from activities in which I was less suitable into ones in which I at least survived. After four years in Chemical Engineering, and two years at the Business School, I tried my hand in several functions within the chemical industry (capital budgeting at Allied Chemical, and mergers and acquisitions at W.R. Grace). The lure of Wall Street finally pushed me in that direction (Institutional Research, following the chemical industry at W.E. Hutton and Hornblower and Weeks) and finally settling on portfolio management, with stints at U.S. Steel Pension Fund, J.P. Morgan, US Trust, and then back to J.P. Morgan (they came back to me through a merger, keeping my desk and telephone number intact). Portfolio management is one of the most transferable skills available, so that I am still doing it actively with a private practice, and probably will until they no longer detect a pulse on me. Many of us active in money management owe much to another Columbia Business School grad (Warren Buffett) who's guidance and insights help shape an investment approach that proves rewarding. V. looking forward to our 50th reunion in april.....hope you all will consider coming up to campus for the dean's luncheon on friday, april 23rd and other events over the weekend.....as for me, i have been married to lynn aidala (a former bank lending officer) for thirty years. my son, mark, is a second year law student at the university of virginia---he's looking for a summer internship program where he could gain experience valuing companies-- any help here ????? .....my daughter, pam, is a teaching assistant at the episcopal school on the upper east side in new york....have spent the past 50 years working for haskins & sells (now deloitte)- as a cpa, itt corporation- as a financial executive and, for the past 20 years as a financial advisor with morgan stanley smith barney (and predecessor firms).....
